A paternity test is a test that determines who the father of the baby is. The paternity test is traditionally done from cells of the child or adult, usually the blood, and the blood or cells from the presumed father or fathers. The DNA of the child is then compared with the DNA of the presumed father. During pregnancy, invasive tests such as a CVS chorionic villi sampling test or an amniocentesis can be done to determine paternity. Recently, a new tests from the mother's blood as early as 9 weeks of the pregnancy can be done to determine paternity, though a sample of the presumed father's cells is also always required for comparison.
