What is Eosinophil Count?
The eosinophil count on a blood test is indicative of current immune system, particularly white blood cells, activity. Eosinophils are white blood cells that are activated to fight off infections and some allergic diseases. The total number of eosinophils in the blood can be used to determine the severity of an allergic reaction – more being associated with a more acute reaction.

Eosinophil values are also abnormal in patients with Cushing’s disease, parasite infection and acute hypereosinophilic syndrome.
