What is Cobalamin?Cobalamin is vitamin B12. A vitamin B12 blood test is often used to diagnose certain types of anemia, malnutrition and vitamin malabsorption conditions. Patients recovering from gastric bypass surgery may also have vitamin B12 testing as the body cannot absorb adequate amounts via food and injections are required to maintain healthy levels.
Pernicious anemia is an autoimmune condition that affects vitamin B12 levels.
Patients undergoing vitamin B12 treatment will undergo regular cobalamin testing to ensure healthy levels of the vitamin are present in blood.
