Charting Fertility While Breastfeeding

Keeping a fertility chart is the perfect way to get to know your new body, especially if you plan on trying to conceive soon after giving birth. Your fertility chart will likely include daily basal body temperature readings and cervical mucus descriptions. Basal body temperature should be taken immediately upon waking.
Cervical mucus is located near the cervix inside the vagina. You can place a finger (middle is often best) inside the vagina to retrieve a sample. The closer you get to your cervix the better the sample. Write down the look and feel of your cervical mucus. If you are ovulating, the mucus will be wet and stretchy (forms a line between two fingers of at least one inch).
